Alta Moda or Haute Couture is the creation of unique tailor-made garments made mainly by hand using high-quality fabrics, decorations, applications, and embroideries with extreme attention to detail.
Last night, Dolce and Gabbana unveiled its Alta Moda collection in Venice, at St Mark’s square precisely. Even though movies have been set there in the past but until now, a fashion show has never been hosted in it.
Who else is also wondering if the beautiful city of Venice is going to be fashion’s new capital? Just this year, Valentino hosted their autumn-winter 2021. Rick Owens has also hosted his SS22 collection on Lido Beach, and Anthony Vaccarello hosted Saint Laurent’s men’s 2022 collection in the city. And, the upcoming 78th Venice Film Festival is set to start tomorrow.
In attendance at the show were celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Sean Combs, Doja Cat, Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, Monica Bellucci, Christian Bale, Dame Helen Mirren, Kitty Spencer, and many more.
Jennifer Lopez stunned in a regal look from the House, a floral pant and mid-riff top, with a matching cape and an embellished headpiece. Jennifer Hudson showed up in a gold dress as she sang Nessun Dorma in Italian. Aretha Franklin, who Hudson portrays in Respect also sang the song in Italian.
The duo designer, Domenico Dolce, and Stefano Gabbana had said that they will present a younger side of Alta Moda, “because everyone thinks couture is for the old, but that’s not how it has to be.” They showed this in their choice of cast that included celebrity women’s children to model their looks. This included Jessie James and D’Lila Star (daughters Sean Combs), Deva (daughter of Monica Bellucci), Emmeline, (daughter of Christian Bale), and Leni (daughter of Heidi Klum).
The collection drew inspiration from the rich tones of Murano glasses, the color of the lagoons, and the decorative features of the city’s historic building. There were long gowns with traces of Venice on the bodice and skirt, lots of floral-inspired gowns, kaftans with Venice city scenes, short silhouettes, and elaborate and colorful headpieces.
