Tell us about yourself?

I’m Aliyu Hadiza. A native of Kogi state. I studied microbiology at Ahmadu Bello University. I’ve aggressively been into fashion since I graduated from the university and I’m presently the creative director of Aziddah.

Tell us about your brand.

My brand name is Aziddah and it was founded in 2019. Aziddah was birthed out of the frustration of not being able to find affordable and modest clothes off the rack in most shops. The brand has successfully been able to sew bespoke clothing, have styling sessions with our clients, produce ready-to-wear pieces, be the source for lovely fabrics, and also give fashion advice to our clients. Our aim is to be solely ready to wear brand and we are still on the path to achieving this goal.

What is your background in fashion?

My background in fashion is quite interesting. I studied fashion for 3 yrs in my SS1-SS3 and I sat for it in WAEC AND NECO. Then, I took a 6months course in 2013 where I learned the rudimentary aspect of fashion. Fast forward to 2016, I learned how to tailor male and female clothing properly for 6 months. With my basic knowledge, I went ahead to sew throughout 2017 while I was undergoing my NYSC. In 2019, I took an advanced 3 months course with Hudayya fashion Academy. Since then I have taken several online courses in a fashion which has really helped in increasing my knowledge and understanding when it comes to tailoring clothes.

What is your achievement in this career so far?

My highest achievement was when I was being selected as one of the cohorts of the Creative Enterprise Support Programme by The British Council in 2019.

What are your goals and aspirations for the next 5 years?

My goal and aspirations for the next 5 years are to be able to produce standard Ready to wear pieces. To have my designs in different malls in Africa. Also, to be an employer of labor to internally displaced persons. I’ll also want to produce uniforms for companies and organizations.

Who is your role model/s in this industry?

I draw my inspiration from a lot of creators. I strongly believe Everyone is unique and have their own strength and qualities. But someone who really stands out for me is Annah Hariri and Huddaya.

What advice will you give someone who is just starting out in this line of business?

Stay true to yourself, your designs, and your instincts. Have an open mind and be ready to unlearn and learn new things. Always be hungry to be and do better every day.
