For the right reason, Linda Khumbanyiwa got featured on CNN Style. The Malawian designer was our very Designer Spotlight Candidate when that segment was started. Now we have over 7 more brands. We couldn’t be more proud.
The headline on CNN Style read “Malawian Designer is inspired by Images of Earth from Space”. It narrated how she launched a collection called “Earth from Space.” The idea was to use colours of our earth like those seen in images of our planet taken from afar. According to her” Blue and yellow.
The former fashion model and blogger said she wanted her brand to portray her root and cultural heritage which is why she choose her country’s traditional fabric called Kitenge to represent her idea.
She spoke of the challenges she faces as a designer in Malawi. Also pointed out that there are not many people doing what she does in her home town and she hoped that more people will spring up to embrace the craft.
