Nigerian- born Pearlena Igbokwe has emerged as the newly appointed Chairman of Universal Studio Group.
She is the first woman of African Descent to head a major American television studio.
She is replacing Bonnie Hammer who is taking a new role as Vice Chairman.
Mrs Igbokwe who has made giant strides in the television industry was recently the president of Universal Television, where she oversaw all aspects of studio business and increased record volume for the studio during her time.
Some programmes that came under her include The Good Place, Brooklyn Nine – Nine, Little America, Russian Doll and many others.
She also served as the Executive Vice President; Drama and Programming for NBC Entertainment where she developed top notch broadcast dramas.
Before her stint at NBC, she worked at Showtime for 20 years!
The Universal Studio Group has released a statement expressing their confidence in her abilities as the new chairman. According to the Universal Studio Group, she will lead the company’s growing global television studio businesses and report directly to Jeff Shell; CEO NBCUniversal.
