The Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) is an annual film festival that takes place here in Nigeria. It was founded in 2010 by Chioma Ude, a Nigerian entertainment executive. Its Inaugural edition was in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria and since then has held its annual events every year. Except in 2020, because of the pandemic that hit the world at large.
This year, AFRIFF is back again talking about cinemas and examining events that have happened in the movie industry since the last time it was held. A new wave of filmmaking is already here and AFRIFF highlighted some it over the 7 days programme which ended with an award night yesterday.
With the theme “AFRICANS FOR AFRICA”, they sought to find the new narratives for Africa as told by Africans defying the norm and exploring new genres in horror, fantasy, magic, psychological thrillers etc.
The seven days event was ended with an award night in categories such as feature films, documentaries, short films, animation and student shorts, as well as awards and prizes in the categories “Best Director”, “Best Actor or best actress “,” best screenplay “. It also offers special prizes, the Audience Prize and the Jury Prize.
