Tell us about yourself

My name is Feyisayo Agunbiade. I am 24. A Law Graduate and just concluded my M.Sc in Conflict, Peace and Strategic Studies at Afe Babalola University.

I am a Chartered Mediator and Conciliator and also a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria.

Tell us your brand story

I graduated in 2016 and was waiting to go for my NYSC, I first started making Ankara chokers and from there I moved on to bag making.
I’m a self-taught bag maker. Developed my skills from watching various YouTube videos coupled with my passion for fashion and love for Ankara/Afrocentric fabrics. We have expanded into Adire and Aso oke bags as well as sneakers and travel bags. We now have wholesale clients in various countries such as the US, Canada, UK and South-Africa.

What makes your brand different from other fashion brands?

Our unique selling point lies in our ability to create designs that have a blend of both the African culture and modern style with a price point that is geared towards affordability.

What is your background in fashion?

Well growing up, I used to make beaded accessories and hats with my mum. But I finally pitched my tent in Ankara crafts.

What is your highest achievement in this career so far?

The ability to create unique and never before seen designs as well as the international expansion we have been getting lately. We have gone from producing 15-20 bags per month to producing 100 and above.

What is your goals and aspirations for the next 5 years?

To further expand internationally and become and globally recognized brand.

What advice would you give someone who is just starting out un this line of business?

Be unique. Try to create your own designs. Push yourself to be creative rather than imitating other people’s designs. You can draw inspiration from other designs but add your own unique touch. Consistency is also key.
