Nigerian-based designer, Kenneth Ize has collaborated with The Karl Langerfeld Brand to create the Spring/Summer 2021 gender-neutral collection.
The collection was inspired by Nigerian and European styles, mixing the signature and iconic black-and-white from Karl Lagerfeld with pop colors and Aso oke patterns from Kenneth Ize. The collection was curated by the brand’s style adviser, Carine Roitfield. The ready-to-wear clothes and accessories were imagined by Kenneth Ize and Hun Kim, Karl Lagerfeld’s design director. All fabrics used for the accessories, including keychains and a phone bag were sourced here in Nigeria.
Ize is popular for mixing handmade African aesthetics with elements of contemporary luxury. He uses striped geometric patterned Aso-oke across a ready-to-wear collection of tailored separates, knitted tops, and pants, as well as accessories and jewelry.
Pier Paolo Righi, chief executive of Karl Lagerfeld, said: “Kenneth shares Karl Lagerfeld’s vision for innovation, craftsmanship, quality, and authenticity, and we are excited to bring the fruits of this collaboration to the public.”
